Faith in People to do the Right Thing

After today, I have none.

All they had to do was calculate some stormwater flows.  Instead, they redesigned a section pipe that resulted in a redesign of some sewer.

It should have taken me an hour to bring the plans back upto spec following the input of these calcs.  Instead, it’s taken me 8 hours today and it’s still not done.  These plans are supposed to be finalised by Friday, and that ain’t going to happen.

My problem lies not with the fact that the design was changed, it’s clear when you look at the numbers that it had to happen.  My problem is that the change was done without consultation and (more importantly) without warning.  I got sent the new data, and didn’t think it was right.  So I went to the project manager for the job who didn’t know anything about it at all.  It was all done by one engineer who hadn’t thought of the possible ramifications of his actions.

Is it that much of a fucking hassle to place a phonecall and inform people that you’ve encountered a problem and that you have a proposed solution for it.  I mean, just changing stuff on a job that’s in it’s last stages without telling anyone and just hoping that they notice is plainly not on.

This is before we realised that the data they’d given us was wrong to begin with.

I’m rather annoyed to say the least, and I’m certainly not going to split hairs when I’m asked why the job was late and why it was over budget.  I will not be stuffed around by people that don’t talk to each other about the jobs they’re all working on together.  It’s supposed to be a collaboration.

You fucking idiots.
